Yesterday and today, students were given time in class to work on their vocabulary and movie report essays.  There is no reading this weekend so that students will have time to complete their movie report.  Students should, however, make sure that they are all caught up on last week's reading through chapter 6.

Today in class, we discussed students' reading from last night and went over the directions for the movie report.  Students then had the remainder of class time to start working on their essays.  I will give them more time to work on them tomorrow in class as well.

I apologize for the delay, but I am going to have to put the Christmas Carol Persuasive Essays on third quarter.  I have a few students who I know have completed the assignment but have not submitted it, and I want to give them a chance to do so.  Thank you for your understanding.

Today in class, we went over the reading questions for chapter 3 and reviewed some difficult passages from the story.  We also went over the characters and clarified some misunderstandings.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond PDF - students can use this to find the quotes from the story much faster than searching through the novel.

Today in class, students were very excited when they saw their Do Now question - "Who is Donald Trump?"  Many students shared their extensive answers, and we then talked about how they should be answering questions about characters and people from history in the same way - talking about the important and interesting aspects of their life.

We then went over their reading questions from the weekend, and analyzed some quotes from the text.  Students seem to be enjoying the book so far!

-The Witch of Blackbird Pond - Ch. 3 Read and answer questions
-Verb Test Corrections (optional) due by Wednesday - can earn back points!

Students are welcome to come after school for extra help on those corrections either today or tomorrow!

Today we discussed the concept of identity, and the different elements that make up a person's identity.  Students created Identity Charts that illustrated the things that make up their own identities. We also went over last night's grammar homework and reviewed for Tuesday's test on verbs.

Today we began our unit on Identity and The Witch of Blackbird Pond.  Students will be exploring the ways that their identity is formed so that they can better understand the questions of identity that are explored in our novel. We also went over the grammar homework.

Today in class, we went over our homework from last night and reviewed the process of finding direct and indirect objects.  Then, we did a sorting activity and reviewed linking verbs, predicate nouns and predicate adjectives.

Students also handed in their choices for the movie report.  I have decided to postpone the due date of the movie report essay because the other grade 7 English teachers have done so. It will now be due on February 1.  I will give directions for the essay this week.

Welcome back!  Today we reviewed the different types of nouns and began our unit on verbs.  Students were given a large review packet that we will be working on throughout the week in preparation for the midyear assessment.  We completed the first and second pages of this packet in class.
